iGEM is the premier undergraduate Synthetic Biology event. Last summer for iGEM 2011, 160 student teams from schools in Asia, Europe, Latin America, Canada, and the US designed and built simple biological systems from standard, interchangeable parts. Teams presented their designs and systems at their respective Regional Jamborees held in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, and Indianapolis before advancing to the World Championship Jamboree at MIT in November. The accomplishments of these student teams during one summer are often impressive and may lead to important advances in medicine, energy, and the environment.
The iGEM Jamboree is the largest annual gathering of synthetic biologists. This is a significant opportunity for your organization to build visibility and collaborate with the leaders in the new field of Synthetic Biology from all over the world.

Regional Jamboree Winners
- In 2011, iGEM implemented the iGEM Regional structure. Teams participate in their local Regional Jamboree in October as the first round, followed by the World Championship in November. A percentage of the teams that win at each of the Regional Jamborees will attend and compete at the World Championship. Each winning team that advances will need to raise additional money to attend the World Championship Jamboree. This is a good opportunity for your organization to show your support to your local teams.
